Top Denim Fashion Trends

November 17th, 2009

Without a doubt, 2009 was the year of the skinny jeans. Will this trend continue on to the next season? Or should we anticipate the return of baggy jeans from the 90s?

Here are the hottest three denim styles that every fashionable women should have on their wardrobe:

1. Boyfriend jeans – Katie Holmes was given unfavorable comments as she was seen in public in cuffed boyfriend jeans. Who knew that it will be the next Hollywood trend, with Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Anniston following suit. The boyfriend jeans even found its way on fashion runways, though they still have to emerge out in the streets. Its baggy look doesn't exactly flatter the female figure as one would like, making any body-conscious female hesitant about wearing one. So it is essential to wear it right.

2. Skinny Jeans – This is good news for skinny jean lovers who refuse to move on to another denim style just yet. Women who want to feel and look sexy without showing too much skin opt to wear skinny jeans and pair it with heels. I joined the skinny jean bandwagon and I have paired it with almost everything, from heels to ballet flats and to my sneakers even. Since the trend is proving to be a staple in every female's wardrobe, it is a good idea to invest in a quality pair you can wear for years.

3. Wide-Leg Jeans – These jeans are different from the flare and boot-cut style in that they are wide not just in the bottom area, but in the whole leg area. This trend first became popular during the 90s. To wear it right, go for the dark wash, match it with a fitted top or wear it with a belt to add a touch of elegance. Celebrities who can carry the trend well include Penelope Cruz and Jennifer Lopez. It may become more popular than skinny jeans because it fits more body types than the skinny jeans. If you are ready to make the transition from skinny to wide-leg, then check denim's hottest brands such as 7 For All Mankind and Citizens of Humanity.

The only predictable thing about trends is they come and go and resurface again when we least expect it. If you are not too hot about the latest trend, don't fret because it's only a matter of time before the next trend emerges. One good thing about trends though is the variety. Out of the three jean trends, there is a good chance that everyone will find at least one trend to incorporate into their wardrobe.
